Air Conditioner Problems with Range Rovers

Range Rovers are well known worldwide as luxurious four-wheel drive automobiles that have vast capabilities on all types of road terrain. It’s desired by car enthusiasts who seek the thrill of driving on all terrain but also embody comfort and class. Land Rover, the British Company that produces the Range Rovers, has released a number of different models with it currently being in its fourth generation of Range Rovers. Drivers have complained about various problems: one of which are AC breakdowns.

Two, common causes for the AC to break in your Range Rover

According to Range Rover car owners review online, the Range Rover L322 has the most AC breakdowns.

1. Owners complain that the air conditioning works well for half an hour, then the amount of airflow decreases. The fans sound like they are working just fine, but there is no cool air coming through.  Stopping the car, turning off the ignition and waiting a few minutes before you start the vehicle again seems to take care of the problem but only temporarily.

2. Other owners have also noticed that air coming from the right vent is warmer than the left side. Adjusting the thermostat does not change the occurrence.

Automotive Air Conditioning

A car’s air conditioner works by cooling and removing humidity from the air. For the AC to function efficiently, it should have three main parts in perfect working order; the compressor, condenser and evaporator.

The compressor is the workhorse of the air conditioning system. It is powered by a drive belt connected to the crankshaft of the car engine. Once the air conditioning system is switched on, the compressor pumps refrigerant vapor under high pressure to the condenser. The condenser then changes the high-pressure refrigerant gas into a liquid.

High temperatures are removed from the condenser by atmospheric air flowing from the outside. The liquid refrigerant moves to a small reservoir vessel, known as the receiver dryer, which clears vapor that may have emanated into the coolant. It prevents ice crystals from forming that can cause blockages and in turn, immense mechanical damage.

From the receiver dryer, the pressurized refrigerant flows to the expansion valve. As the cold, low-pressure refrigerant is passed into the evaporator, it vaporizes. The fan blows air over the outside of the vaporizer resulting in the circulation of cold air inside the car. Finally, the compressor then draws in the low-pressure refrigerant vapor to begin another refrigeration cycle that operates consistently and is controlled by positioning the proliferation faucet.

AC Repair Cost

If any of the these parts cease to perform, the entire AC system breaks down. The cost of air conditioner repairs ranges between $1,200 – $2,000+ depending on which parts are damaged.
